Linux KVM Hosting

Linux KVM Hosting is a Virtual Private Server (VPS) product based on the Linux Kernel-based Virtual Machine technology.

GaSiD Solutions KVM Hosting plans offer the following:

  • Near native performance
  • User/Distro provided  kernel and modules (no reliance on the host kernel)
  • Change the OS installed on your virtual machine or reinstall your virtual machine at any time
  • Public (or private natted) IP address allocated to your server
  • KVM access to your virtual machine if required
  • Serial access to your virtual machine if required
  • Startup/Shutdown/Boot Device/Virtual CDROM image control of your virtual machine

Additional options are available, these include:

  • Managed firewall to your virtual machine
  • Full management of your virtual machine

Options being considered, but currently not implemented are:

  • User accessible regular local backups of your machine
  • Service monitoring of your virtual machine

Costs

Cost is worked out based on a ‘chunk’ of a server. A server is divided into a number of chunks dependent upon its hardware. One chunk is currently based around this model:

  • CPU – Shared access to one virtual KVM CPU
  • RAM – 256M
  • Swap – 512M
  • Disk – 14.5GB
  • Bandwidth – 50GB/month

If a single chunk of the system is not enough for your requirements, you cannot increase a specific item, you must purchase another chunk of the system to ensure that it meets all of your requirements (with the exception of additional bandwidth which is charged extra beyond the amount provided by the number of chunks that you purchase).

A single chunk is currently priced at £15 per month

Prices reduce to £12 per chunk for a purchase of four chunks or more.
Prices reduce to £9 per chunk for a purchase of eight chunks or more.

Additional bandwidth is available in 50GB chunks, charged at £3.50/month.

The optional managed firewall is at a cost of £3 per month per virtual machine, with an initial £15 setup fee.

Fully managed virtual machines are costed on a case by case basis. Please contact us with your requirements.

Multi processor access

All of our servers have at least dual quad core CPUs (with a minimum spec of 2.50GHz Intel Xeon).
Each virtual machine consisting of 1-4 chunks is given access to one virtual KVM CPU.
Each virtual machine consisting of 4-8 chunks is given access to two virtual KVM CPUs.
Each virtual machine consisting of 8-12 chunks is given access to three virtual KVM CPUs.
And so on…

Operating Systems

You can install almost any Linux operating system that you want. If your requested OS isn’t in our library it can be added upon user request.

We can also provide a fairly generic Gentoo Linux build, ensuring quick setup of Gentoo Linux for those not wishing to install it from scratch themselves.

Some of our customers are currently running the following Operating Systems:

  • Gentoo Linux
  • Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04 Server
  • CentOS 5.3
  • Fedora 10 and 11
